Description
Genus name comes from Greek pyknos meaning dense and anthos meaning flower for its densely packed flowers. Pycnanthemum is a genus of plants in the mint family. They are commonly known as mountain mints. The bracts are silvery and very showy and the flowers are pinkish. Has dark green leaves which have a strong mint-like (spearmint) aroma when crushed. Leaves can be used to make mild tea. Native Americans used this plant for treatment of fevers, colds, stomach aches, and other minor physical ailments. grows 1-3’ tall Not invasive as the other true mints (Mentha).
